Event Central opening on Fargate delayed until 2027

Sheffield's £14.4 million Event Central development on Fargate will now not open this year, Sheffield City Council has said.

The council says a permanent electricity connection still needs to be secured before the venue can welcome the public.

It is working with Northern Powergrid, contractors and specialist utility teams to find an alternative solution to the problem.

The venue and workspace is now expected to open in 2027.

Event Central is planned as a new city-centre space for live events, exhibitions, talks, community events and workspace.

The council says a further update will follow once the technical solution, cost and timetable become clearer.
